Project Description
The project develops a modern metro system serving major cities in Vietnam, starting with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The system uses driverless automatic train technology (ATO – Automatic Train Operation) with the capacity to transport 40,000 passengers per hour in each direction. The 6-car trains are designed with wide doors to increase boarding and alighting speed, a large capacity air conditioning system suitable for tropical climates, and low floors for easy access. Underground stations are designed with optimal depth to avoid flooding during the rainy season, integrated with modern drainage and ventilation systems. The project includes 3 main lines with a total length of 120km, 85 underground stations and 15 elevated stations, connecting central areas with suburbs. Contactless electronic payment system, mobile application for real-time schedule tracking, and integration with other public transport means create a synchronous and efficient transport network.
Challenges
- Complex Geology: Underground Construction in Weak Ground Conditions
- High population density: Construction in densely populated areas requires solutions to minimize impacts
- Huge investment capital: Construction costs up to billions of USD require diverse funding sources
- High technology: Need to transfer advanced technology and train operating experts
Solutions
- Detailed geological survey: Using modern survey drilling technology and suitable foundation design
- Construction by TBM method: Applying automatic tunnel boring machine to reduce impact on surrounding environment
- Mobilizing PPP capital: Combining state capital, private capital and ODA loans to ensure financial resources
- Technology transfer: Cooperate with experienced international railway corporations such as SCOMI, Alstom
